The Competence Centre on the Participation of Children and Adolescents in Decision-Making is a thematic hub promoting inclusive, meaningful, and systematic child participation in decisions that affect them.

Established as one of the main outcomes of the European project Inclusive Child Participation Networks (ICPN), the Centre serves as a dynamic reference point for collecting, enhancing, and sharing materials, experiences, and research that strengthen the implementation of Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Through the organisation and coordination of knowledge, tools, and methodologies, the Centre makes resources accessible to professionals, institutions, schools, and all those working to promote children’s participation in decision-making processes.

The European Project – Inclusive Child Participation Networks (ICPN)

Launched in early 2025, the ICPN project aims to strengthen inclusive and meaningful child participation across 11 European partner countries.

Its objectives are to:

  • Reinforce and innovate structured mechanisms for child participation at local, national, and EU levels.
  • Promote the active involvement of children and young people, especially those at risk of exclusion or underrepresentation.
  • Build the capacities of authorities and existing participation mechanisms to ensure a systemic, inclusive approach.

A European network – the European Network on Inclusive Child Participation (ECPN) – will be co-designed with children and connect local and national initiatives across Europe, in synergy with the EU Children’s Participation Platform
