The activities of the Italian NGO Group for the CRC in Italy

In 2001 the Italian NGO Group for the CRC (Gruppo CRC) elaborated the Supplementary Report on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in Italy – «The Rights of the Children in Italy – perspectives in the third sector» which was submitted to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in 2002.

The Italian NGO Group for the CRC is committed to pursuing the monitoring of the implementation in Italy of the CRC, its Optional Protocols (OPAC and OPSC) and the recommendations sent to Italy and included in the Conclusive Observations. This is not only in view of periodic Reports issued by the Italian Government and submitted to the UN CRC Committee, but also in order to guarantee a permanent, independent monitoring system agreed upon every year by all the associations working in Italy for the promotion and the protection of the rights of the child.

In the framework of the monitoring process, the Italian NGO Group for the CRC decided to produce every year Follow-Up Report on the monitoring of CRC in Italy, trying every year to increase its angle of observation and at the same time, guaranteeing an accurate updating on the questions already considered.

The Follow up Reports have been presented every year on 27 May, the anniversary of CRC ratification in Italy (Law 176/1991).

In 2005 the Italian NGO Group for the CRC presented the Supplementary Report on the implementation of the two CRC Optional Protocols, submitted to the UN CRC Committee and discussed during the pre-session of the 6th October.

On January 2009 the Italian Government submitted to the UN CRC Committee the Third-Fourth Periodic Report.

On October 2010, the Italian NGO Group for the CRC sent to the UN Committe the Second Supplementary Report.

On June 2011 a delegation of the Italian NGO Group for the CRC attended the pre-session in Geneva with the UN Committe on the Rights of the Child. On September 2011 a delegation partincipated as Observator to the Session between the UN Committee and the Italian Government.

On October 2011, the UN Committee has pubblished the Concluding Observations for Italy.
